The Drop Cheek has an Eggbutt like ring at the mouthpiece for the rein, with an upper cheek that has a ring at its end, to which the cheekpiece of the bridle is attached.
The mouthpiece does not slide on its ring resulting in only slight poll pressure. The cheekpieces lies flat against the horse's face, and the mouthpiece is quite fixed in the mouth and concentrates pressure on the bars.
The Elliptical is a 45 mm lozenge, it is stronger than the Control Plate due to it having a smaller surface area. Consequently, a horse using his tongue as a means of pushing against the bit and therefore taking control, will draw back and tuck his chin in, coming back to a better point of control. The mouthpiece is more curved, which makes it more comfortable for the horse.
